From its hand-carved wooden door frame to its indoor waterfall, stepping the 3Ws Gallery is a unique and uplifting experience. People say, “It just feels good in here.” The 3Ws Gallery’s feng shui mirrors and, of course, the wood itself add to the ambience. Peter Washington, the owner of 3Ws Gallery, was born in Chicago, Illinois. He relocated to Atlanta, Georgia twenty years ago. An only child, Peter grew up working with his hands building model airplanes, boats and cars. He has always had a love of art, especially painting and photography. His aunt Mattie C. Greenwood was an art director for the Atlanta Public School system. His cousin, Thomas Blackshear II, is a very well known professional artist. Peter often speaks of their greatness and influence. Ten years ago, Mr. Washington cut the strings of conventional art forms and began his unique style of wood carving. Following his own quote, “CAPTURE YOUR IMAGINATION, BUT DON’T CAGE IT”, he pushed the envelope of design, carving everything from picture frames and mirrors to door, pool cue cases and even entire kitchen cabinets. He often remarks that if there is wood around sooner, or later it will get carved. After first attending the University of Chicago, he then took art courses at the University of Iowa, University of Alabama and Stillman College. After graduation, Peter worked at the Boeing Company in Seattle, Washington, where he was a design illustrator and systems analyst. It is said that there is a thin line between art and science, and with a degree in physics and an art gallery to his credit Peter proves how thin that line can be.
